[MW:2172] RE: 2163] Determination of Et value in IBR Regulation 271

<Security Level 2>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 IBR 343, is not very clear.

However, i am asking because 16 (d) is more stringent.
Also if you refer any PMC (EIL, Technip, Jacob)  notes or requirement then, they also specify for alloy steel to use stress values as per code & request to mention the same on IIIA; but don't ask to mention about CS.
So interpretation is for CS, it should be as per 16(d) & for alloy steel as per code?

can any one give his or her view on the subject matter?

Thanks & Regards,
Dhwani Desai.

Use of permissible working stress from ASME Section II D or other code is acceptable to IBR as per clause no 343.
Also one observation is that Clause 350 and 271 does not call for stress values to be determined as per clause 16 (d).

[MW:2163] <Security Level 2>Determination of Et value in IBR Regulation 271

Dear Sirs,

Under IBR regulation 271, it is stated that allowable stress shall be considered lower of E
t/1.5 or R/2.7.

Here, E
t is - Yield Point (0.2%proof stress) at temp. t..

Can any one say from where this Et value shall be taken.

There are two options :

1. Refer IBR 16 (d) which gives table listing the values of Ratio ofEt/R20 for different temperatures. From which we can compute Et for particular temp. t.

(This table is only for carbon steel in general). Shall Et value be computed from this?

2. Or from Table Y-1 of ASME Sec. II-D? Which lists the yield strength at different temp. materialwise.

Kindly help on this issue as early as possible.

Pls. mark reply to piping_valves id also as i don't receive mail from materials-welding group.

Thanks in advance,

Regrds,

Dhwani
