Rajeev,
Anything in excess of 6 gauss residual magnetism is known to cause problems in welding
such as arc blow.

Dear Rajeev Arora,

 

You must be referring to manganese not magnesium since there is no range or max. for magnesium in API 5L Gr. 70.

 

For Manganese, the range depends on what type of pipe and what WT is involved or whether Seamless, Welded, PSL 1, or PSL 2. For safety you may have a limit of up to 1.4% max for seamless pipe unless otherwise agreed or it could go up to 1.8% for other types. You need to say the type and WT.
