Re: [MW:10156] Time for a Welder Test to complete

Dear Mr.Ali,

This problem is in all most all industries, based up on time factor you can not disqualify any welder as QC Inspector, ask your production people to give him memo or some thing corrective actions,

If it is Procedure qualification and based up on your design requirement you can disqualify the welder, because of heat in put parameters changing and hence mechanical properties will change.

Dear All,

Hi,
We usually conduct WQT in our premises but I have observed that the
time taken to complete the joint {Root + Hot + Fill + Capping
(excluding grinding/flushing in between)} varies from welder to
welder. Testing comprises of Visual & Radiography (No Mechanical
Testing)

So my question is "Should it be considered? Considering a Ø6" Sch 40
pipe in 6G position, our best welder completed the test in 25 minutes
with no indication. But some welders took about an hour or more. I
feel that if we look at the universal formula "S = V x T", time is
inversely proportional to Travel speed which make it directly
proportional to the Heat Input.

So is it OK to disqualify a welder based on time taken to complete
that weld?

Thanks & Regards,

M. Ali
