Re: [MW:23968] ASME SECVIII RT RULES

When thickness is not lower than 6 mm you may use UT for any joint but in accordance with Div. 2. If thickness us lower than 6 mm you can use UT only for the situation described in UW11(8)

Subject: [MW:23964] ASME SECVIII RT RULES

DEAR EXPERTS

My question is about RT rules according to asme sec VIII
is it possible to use ut ( according to code case 2235-9 )  instead of rt in Inspection of joints efficiency = 1.00 ?
or we can use it just when the construction does not permit interpretable radiographs in accordance with Code requirements ?
and my second question:
Is it possible using of division 2 roles for inspection of weld joints when general design and fabrication specification is according to division 1?

Best regards.

-----------------------------------------------------
according to division 1

1:
 Table uw-12:
full rt is required for joint efficiency = 1.00
2:
uw-11
(8) ultrasonic examination in accordance with UW-53 may be substituted for radiography for the final closure seam of a pressure vessel if the construction of the vessel does not permit interpretable radiographs in accordance with Code requirements. The absence of suitable radiographic equipment shall not be justification for such substitution.
3:
UW-51- (4)
As an alternative to the radiographic examination requirements above, all welds in material 6 mm and greater in thickness may be examined using the ultrasonic method per the requirements of 7.5.5 of Section VIII, Division 2.

division 2:
and according to division 2 Table 7.2 There is the possibility of using both UT or RT for joint efficiency = 1.00
