Re: [MW:16716] welding of 13% cr steel

Mr. Adel,

Because of the potential for cracking, alloy or carbon steel consumables must not be used when
welding alloy or carbon steel to stainless steels, and 400 series stainless consumables must not be
used when welding 400 series stainless to austenitic stainless.

When welding a martensitic or ferritic stainless steel to carbon or alloy steel, both sides of the joint can
be "buttered" or coated with an austenitic weld rod such as E/ER309 (or) 309Mo  or 312, , using
preheat and heat treating after buttering as necessary. Then the joint can be made without the need
for preheat.

Alternatively, the joint can be made using austenitic filler E/ER309 (or) 309Mo or 312, without the initial
overlays; however, control of dilution is critical in this case.

Dear Experts,

i have to weld  (4 1/16'' 5K) Flange to ( 4'' Api 5L , X 60 ) Pipe, the flange material is 13% cr-110 and the mechanical properties as following:

Tensile Strength is 120,000 psi ,Yield Strength is 110,000min. & 130,000 max. , Hardness 32 HRC

and the chemical composition as following :
Grade C Si
max.
Mn P
max.
S
max.
Cr Ni Mo Cu
max.
13CR -110 max. 0.04 0.50 max. 0.60 0.020 0.010 12.0~14.0 3.50~4.50 0.80~1.50 -

plz send me the proposed welding process and proposed filler metal and thanx for your attention
