Mr Mokhrani,
There is no ASTM/ASME standard available for such requirement(to the best of my knowledge). My suggestion would be:-
- One spot for every 45 deg around the circumference for the Circ seam. This would get you a ratio: i.e one spot for every few foot of the weld
- Follow the same ratio for longitudinal seams. You would get definitely multiple spots per every long seam.
- Two spots for every shell to nozzle weld ( should be apart by 180 deg)
I would think some thoughts as above would cover the majority of the welds and would get you a good hardess map data.
Thanks

Dear Sir,
-- Our client insisted to have values of shell harndess to make sure that they are within NACE MR 0175 (22 HRC max hardness).

Subject: [MW:12565] HARDNESS MEASUREMENT MAP
--Dear Experts,We have completed sucessfully Hydrotest of our two SS 316L vessles. For stress relieiving reasons, we have asked our supplier and since the beginning, to foresee some spot checks on hardness of the shells. Now, is there any standard mapping/ number of points to be checked??Logically, the more strained fiber is by the external surface of the shell, so which points to select or hardness testing??Many thanks for a prompt replyRegards,--
