Dear Experts, Hi, In one of our project, MDMT is -105º C. M.O.C. is S.S. 304L. Client requirement is to consider lower stress value in design. We are going to use ER 308L Filler wire for welding. Can any body explain me below clause of ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 particulary what is design stress in below clause. As per my opinion, Impact testing is required for Welding proceudre qualification since MDMT is -105º C. Refering to below clause if coincident ratio is <0.35. Thermal treatment as per UHA-51 (c) is not applicable. UHA-51(g) Exemption From Impact Testing Because of Low Stress. Impact testing of materials listed in Table UHA-23 is not required, except as modified by UHA-51(c), for vessels when the coincident ratio of design stress3 in tension to allowable tensile stress is less than 0.35. This exemption also applies to the welding procedures and production welds for the component. 3 Calculated stress from pressure and nonpressure loadings, including those listed in UG-22 which result in general primary membrane tensile stress. With warm regards, C. R. GANDHI (MANAGER- Q.A/ Q.C.) |
