Multilayer capping is nothing but temperbead practice , which is sort heat treatment to bead below the capping layer , This improves the toughness even up to top , This bead is generally ground if the thk of weld bead increases

Does anybody knows why multi layer weld capping, especially in sub arc welding, is preferred than single capping weld? Is there any metallurgical affect due to dilution in single layer weld capping?
