For Overlay
Use of FCAW is advisable , However you can use Thin wire SAW with C% less than 0.04 which is available, The 0.6 % is max Ni, More over You have to use Lower carbon. PWHT temp. should not be more than 640C (Of course 410 overlay should be on 309Mol barrier layer )
If you want to have bend test please try with initially small er angle of about 120 degree with 60 formaer dia and later on with 40 former dia Loading should be very slow

1. How many layers deposited with thickness of each layer including barrier layer?
2. Check for Welding consumable chemistry used for welding (Batch No wise).
3. Max Ni content for SS410 for FCAW Consumable is 0.6%. Hence, depends upon your consumable batch no, the chemistry will be achieved. We can’t get 0.6% Ni because of variation in batch no.
4. ‘’C’’ content. Again it is depends upon the batch used. Check for the same.
5. Bend failure: This is might be due to the formation of sigma phases by heat treatment. Hence, choose consumable with extra low carbon and do screening test.

Subject: [MW:1963] SS 410 overlay with E 309L MO barrier layer
Dear all
I have problem in the overlay of SS 410 on SA 516 Gr 70 with FCAW
process
- I am unable to achieve the carbon % 0.06
- failure in bend test
- unable to achieve Ni content of 0.6%
As required the barrier layer of E309Lmo which contains high value of
Ni and Cr .
Please let me know is it possible to achieve 0.6% Ni in clad layer
with height of 6mm only.
how to clear the bend test ? or waiver from client is the only option.
Looking for you valuable suggestions.
