[MW:26401] Fwd: Fw: Thermowell Welding - Type Of Weld - Stress Concentration Factor - Weld Strength Calculation

 Dear Sir,

We would like to ask some clarification

A.   Brief Summary

1.    The Welded Thermo-well to be welded as per Drawing below:

a.    Design Pressure : 10.4 barg  @ Plus (+) 75 degree C / Minus (-) 176 degree C

b.    Material : Weldolet : SS 316 and Thermowell : SS 316

2.    Item 5 Weldolet is welded to the Pipe

B.   Questions

a.    Is this weld considered full penetration weld (butt weld)?

b.    What is the Stress Concentration Factor (SCF)  for this weld?

c.    We have done Weld Strength Calculation Check, based on the calculation, Weld Leg Required is 0.804 mm (please refer to Attachment for calculation), this means the weld shown in the below Drawing is adequate. Please review and comment.

d.    If Argon Gas is not available for backing gas, can 100% Nitrogen be used? What are the precautions to be used?

e.    If backing gas is not possible, what other welding method is possible?
