Dear sir,
-- first, please check project specification mention or not.
second,
ASME IX (QW- 300.2): " These paragraphs require that each manufacturer or contractor (an assembler or an installer is to be included within this premise) shall be responsible for conducting tests to qualify the performance of welders and welding operators in accordance with qualified Welding Procedure Specifications". It's mean when you carry out WQT, you shall follow WPS. So that, if your WPS can use for both ASME B31.1 and AWS D1.1, you no need to qualify welder again. BUT almost project specification require separate WPS for ASME IX and AWS D1.1.

Dear Sir,
(B31.1 Code) We have a qualified pipe welder with 6G position (18.26 thickness test coupon), as per ASME Sec IX Table QW-461.9, he is qualified for all positions for groove and fillet weld - plate and pipe.
This qualified welder was task to weld pipe support (H Beam), It has been questioned by the TPI that this welder should be qualified again as per AWS D1.1.
My Questions are;
1. Should we qualify this welder again as per AWS D1.1? If yes, what is the supporting code for this.
2. Does ASME Sec IX Rules for this situation?
Need your advise.....
Thank you
Mac Palola
