Re: [MW:24918] Re: Problems for SS304 legs on SS904L vessel?

Iron contamination is related with destruction of surface Cr oxide. No risk in your case, just grind and pickle as usual

Dear all,

Thanks for your inputs.

This tank we are using for food storage (Extreme Hygienic).

Please tell me what are the issues if we weld SS904L with SS304? SS904L have low carbon while SS304 is having high carbon content.

Will there be any issue of iron contamination in future which may be non-hygienic for food applications?

no problem with 308 in that case

Dears,

We have one atmospheric hygienic (Food Industry) vertical vessel of SS904L material which is supported on legs. Vessel diameter is 3200 mm & TL-TL is 5100 mm.

The question is, can we weld SS304 directly on SS904L so that we can use SA-312 TP304 pipe l;eg supports?

Is it necessary to have SS904L RF pad instead of SS304?

Can there be an issue with weldability of SS904L with SS304?

Note : - We can't go for skirt support option.
