Grain growth makes a softer and inferior structure in most cases and is avoided. It also reduces hardness but may increase ductility in a few cases, at the cost of tensile strength reduction. You may consult heat treatment theories from internet for explanation.

If anybody have some texts which explains the basic changes that happens during heat treatment, please share.
