[MW:5729] RE: 5723] A335 Gr9

Dear Rahuman,

In general, back purging is required for materials having Chromium > 3% in order to avoid oxide formation at the root. Please refer to AWS D10.8 for recommendations for welding of C-Mo steel piping and tubing.

Recommended filler metal is E8018-B8 (SFA 5.5)/ ER80S-B8 (SFA 5.28). For electrodes E8018-B8 type, suggested to use with low hydrogen type with H4 or H5 in order to control hydrogen level in weld metal.

The following precautions shall be adhered during welding qualification and further production welding.

  • Preheat upto 200 Deg. C
  • Max. interpass temperature is 300 Deg. C
  • Post heat the weld joint with 250-300 Deg. C for ½ to 1 hour for dehydrogenation purpose
  • PWHT around 750 – 760 Deg. C and holding time based on maximum thickness involved in production welds
