if you see cross sectional hardness (micro) on HAZ in previous attachment (slide #16), the range is wide ~250-350 HV

Subject: Re: [MW:4534] Hardness value of A543 Type-B, Class-1
Dear Raghu,
Nice to see your comments.
It's true that based on the code, the fabricator has taken leverage of not doing PWHT and similar material has posed leaks in different parts of world due to environmental assisted SCC.
We have hardness values from shop, showing wide range, so we are interested in doing hardness at site and compare.
If any other information from you at later stage or from any esteemed member of the group on this, would be nice enough
Thanks and regards,
Venugopal

i could able to locate some info on this material, pl refer the attachement on file section of the group titled environmental stress cracking.http://groups.google.co.in/group/materials-welding/files
Hardness diff stated in ASME is applicable only for forged vessels, however in case div3 vessels it may be applicable for welded ones also.Since Hardness is not given in the code for this material, and PWHT not mandatory either, what is your contract says?check the original material hardness, and compare it with the weld metal, what difference you are getting? Plate mill may be in better position to help, check with mills like dillinger.
this is similar to HY 80 materailOn Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 10:42 PM, juttada venugopal <jamsvenu@gmail.com> wrote:
Dear All,
- May I please know the hardness values of quenched and tempered steel of material A543, type-B, class-1.at the locations of parent metal, weld and HAZ
- What shall be the variation in hardness allowed for this material prior to and after post weld heat treatment. As per Secion 8 div's, variation (min to max.) in hardness of 40 is permitted, is it the same for this material also or any exceptions.
Please share your views, any feed back is appreciable. Thanks and regards,Venugopal==========================.
