RE: [MW:3724] scope of ISO Recommendations for Boiler Construction...

Hello Mr. Nandkumar,

Thank you for your reply,
but I am designing pipe class for petrochemical plant and not PIPE LINE, as per ASME B31.3
Allowable strees from ASME B31.3 are different than ASME Se. II part D, table 1A. and they are according to ASME Se. II part D, table 2A.

ASME Se. II part D , Table 1A has more conservative allowable stresses with 3.5 desing factor for SMTS.
Why should I design pipe class under ASME 31.3 code , with design stress from ASME Sec. II table 1 A .

Kind regards

Drar Rahul

While designing pipeline you can consider the values given in ASME Se. II part D, table 1A,
as same values are also considered in designing neck thickness of a nozzle, which normally is made from a pipe.

Hello all,

I have query regarding application A106 specification.

In the old edition of Astm A106 - edition 99 and  latest SA106 specification, there is a clause for Additional requirements of yield strength as per A 520 shall be followed in case the product to be used in application confirming to  ISO recommendations of Boiler Construction.

1 )Can anyone explain me the definition / scope of  ISO recommendations of Boiler construction ?

also. As per current ASTM revisions,  standard A520 has made Obsolete &  the clause of additional requirements for ISO recommended Boiler construction has been removed in revised edition of A106 - edition. 2009.

now to design pipe class according to ASME 31.3 , do I have to consider any additional requirement ?

One of the reply from Lloyds NOBO. was to follow yield strength  as per ASME section II part D table Y-1.

Then for calculations , which allowable stress value shall be consider , ASME 31.3 table A-1  or  ASME Se. II part D, table 1A ?

kindly advise me on the matter.

Kind regards

Rahul
