Hi all, Calibn - OK, Process- validation required in case of any change in essntial variables only. Otherwise, most Codes do accept certain std processes for their work, if not, then validation would be definitely required. Rgds, S Vagal

Dear Friends, Welding equipments need calibration i e the ammeter and voltmeter is to be calibrated.Frequency is once in 3 months. validation is required for the welding process and not for welding equipments. I am not very clear about the words Calibration, Validation of welding equipments.
Calibration is defined in some of the literature as all the operations for the purpose of determining the value or errors of a measuring instruments. (Checking the measuring instruments correctness such as A, V meters)
where as Validation is defined as all the operations for the purpose of demonstrating that an item of Arc welding equipment or welding system complies with the operating specification for that welding equipment or syestem( Checking the correctness of equipment).
I seen many fabrication shops doing calibration not Validation.
BS 7575-2000 is also having titile " Code of Practice for Validation of arc welding equipment".
Can any body suggest me wether welding equipment requires Calibraion or Validation?
Regards
