Re: [MW:15246] ASME Sec VIII Div.1 UCS-79 clarification

Dear Friend,

As per UCS 79 cl. 4 it is cleared mentioned that your fibre elongation is not more than 5% and cl. 3 is not in your cretira because your head thickness is 16mm.

For head fibre elongation is measured as per below

75t/Rf(1-Rf/Ro)

where t is equal to 16mm in your case

and Rf is your crown and knuckle radius (pl. check in both radius)

and factor  (1-Rf/Ro) is equal to 1 because ro is enfinity.

Also as per EIL specifications all the dished having thickness less than 16mm should be SR and above 16mm should be Normalized.

For P No.1 Gr.No.1 & 2 materials, If the nominal thickness is

above 16 mm & fiber el. is more than 5% – Then only SR is mandatory.

In your case, nominal thickness is 16 mm so fiber el. is allowed up to 40% –

Also, Calculate fiber el. from code formula & check for other conditions

mentioned in UCS-79, then only you will come to conclusion.

Hi friends

A vessel is being fabricated as per ASME Sec VIII Div.1.
MOC is SA 516 Gr.70
The 2:1 ellipsoidal Dish end nominal thickness is 16mm / min thk 14mm. There is no PWHT and Impact test requirements in the vessel.
I would like to know whether this 16mm thk dishend requires stress relieving or not as per UCS-79.
Vendor has offered dish ends without SR. Is it acceptable?
Nothing is mentioned in client specs and drawing about D/E SR.

Regards

Prem Nautiyal
