RE: [MW:31100] Re: Coating on welds prior to hydro test API code

API does not have any piping design & construction code. API-570 is on post construction , maintenance and inspection. Hence ASME  B-31.3 is followed commonly for fabrication, inspection and testing.

According  to B 31.3 – Clause  345.3 Preparation for Leak Test

345.3.1 Joints Exposed:- (d) All joints may be primed and painted prior to leak testing unless a sensitive leak test (para. 345.8) is required.

345.8 Sensitive Leak Test: The test shall be the Bubble Test.

Thanks.

Code of construction  - ASME B 31.3 but need to know if any API code governs the piping construction and related testing requirements.

Thanks,

Madhan

Dear Experts,

Can you throw some light on the subject? Does any API code specify about the coating requirements on welds prior to hydro testing?

Material - A106 Gr B, A519 Gr 4130.

Thanks,

Madhan
