[MW:31179] RE: 31176] Suitability of PWHT on ER309L Buttering over CS

Hi Kunalenfield,

You may use 309L for buttering on carbon steel and subsequent PWHT, provided the design conditions do not exceed the recommendations of API RP-582 as below. A buttering PQR should be established according to ASME Sec-IX , QW -283 . Typical buttering thickness to lesson the effects of welding on the buttered surface should be 3/16". Read the details of QW-283 to establish a buttering followed by welding on the same test coupon.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:31176] Suitability of PWHT on ER309L Buttering over CS

Dear Experts

Need your expert advice that we have a joint of CS to SS, PWHT is applicable for CS. So planned to go for the buttering with ER309L & then PWHT prior welding with SS. Please advise does ER309L has any adverse effect on it if comes under the PWHT cycle applicable for P1 material.
