Re: [MW:14353] Inquiry about the flux of a flux cored wire

Hi

No you cannot just blindly use the flux of MMA electrodes in FCAW.

However Some minerals are common for FCAW and SMAW.

You are talking about the formulation part of FCAW wires and SMAW electrodes which is the trade secret of any consumable manufacturer and no one will share it with you on this open forum.

This is not the forum for discussing this topic and you will not come across any consumable formulation on the internet !
If you are interested in knowing the general formulation of consumables please refer the following book: Fluxes, Solders and Welding Alloys by Louis F Martin.

Just for your information SMAW electrodes coating contain fluorides, carbonates, slag forming ingredients, deoxidisers, iron powder and alloying ingredients bonded with potassium/sodium/lithium silicates.
For example a rutile electrode coating will consist of Manganese dioxide, rutile, alumina, fluoride, ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, iron powder, etc.

Similarly a self shielded FCAW wire fill may contain SiO2, iron powder, CaCO3, Mn, CaF2, etc..

Subject: [MW:14352] Inquiry about the flux of a flux cored wire

can we use the flux of MMA welding electrodes in flux cored wire??
if yes then please tell me how we can do so??
please share some links or data carrying such information.
thanks
