Strength calculations are exempted as per UG 41(b)(3) which sends you to UW15 which again sends you to some figures of UW-16.1.
If you look closely those particular figures you will realize that we have full penetration welds. Because of that strength calculations are not required, just only calculations for the need or not of reinforcement.

Dear All,
Quoted below is the ASME Section VIII Div 1 requirement per UW 15 (b) (1):
(b) Strength calculations for nozzle attachment welds for pressure loading are not required for the following:
(1) Figure UW-16.1 sketches (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f-1), (f-2), (f-3), (f-4), (g), (x-1), (y-1), and (z-1), and all the sketches in Figs. UHT-18.1 and UHT-18.2;
In accordance with above almost all nozzle weld attachments are excluded from strength calculations. This appears to be contradicting with UG-41 requirements.
Can anyone please clarify?
Regards,
Limesh
