Dear Venkateswaran,You have to convince your 3rd party for doing Hydro in Horizontal position.See depending upon the access and feasability we can do the test both in Vertical or Horizontal, give some examples to him...in case of Reactors or Columns length will be more than 35mtr, in Such cases we will test them in Horizontal position only at shop floor or manufacturing area.(even though they were designed for Vertical position), Same was accepted by EIL, Lyods,BV ....So be practical ,explain the difficulties and convince them .On Wed, May 18, 2011 at 2:56 PM, Venkateswaran <k.venkateswaran@ionexchange.co.in> wrote:--Hi,all
One of our 3rd party inspector refused to witnessed hydro test of unfired pressure vessel because the actual site erection of vessel is vertical but we offered vessel Hydro at horizontal due to space restriction. vessel diameter 3000mm X 3200 mm longx12 mm thickness.
Construction code ASME section IX.
What is the reason behind the position in doing Hydro test, what will be effect/reason for rejection if the vessel was tested in horizontal position and any standard says regarding this condition.
Pl. suggest.
Regards,
K. Venkateswaran
