[MW:6086] Re: HR235 is acceptable in replacement of A36 Material? for ASME SEC VII DIV 1 VESSEL

Since HR 235 is not listed in Table UCS-23 of Section VIII Div. 1, it
may not be used. Only those materials given in Section VIII Div. 1,
with allowable stress values shown in Section II Part D my be used.

I am not sure of the type of pressure vessel you are fabricating, but
if it is an Electrically Heated or Gas Fired Jacketed Steam Kettle
according to Appendix 19, use of SA-36 is also not permitted. In my
experience SA-36 is seldom used for pressure vessels, generally it is
used for structual items, however it is permitted.

One possibility you might have to utilize your HR 235 would be UG-10
MATERIAL IDENTIFIED WITH OR PRODUCED TO A SPECIFICATION NOT PERMITTED
BY THIS DIVISION, AND MATERIAL NOT FULLY IDENTIFIED UG-10(a)(2)
