[MW:2327] Re: 2314] PQR for P355NL2

Thanks for your help but my question was is it any evidence that this electrode use for welding this material or not ? 7018G also contain Ni more than the nickle that P355NL2 have. I know If I want to use this electrode I should perform other PQR ..

1)  If welding is governed by ASME, you will more than likely require a new procedure qualification (PQR) and WPS.  C1 electrodes are A Number 10 (See QW-422) and most likely the E7018G will be either an A Number 1 or not be in within any A Number classification ranges.  (A Number is an essential variable for SMAW - see QW-253 which lists QW-404.5 as essential)
2)  Since C1 electrodes have nickel addition, they have superior impact resistance (low DBTT and higher absorbed energy) than typically obtained with electrodes without Ni.
3)  You will sacrifice some strength as specified minimum tensil is 10ksi (~70 MPa) greater for C1 relative to the E7018G
4)  Most welding guides for welding of P355NL2 recommend a Ni added electrode - more than likely to match the impact properties

So, if I were your customer, I would want you to verify the design requirements; tensile strength, yeild strength, and minimum design metal temperature (to determine impact test parameters) and then perform a new procedure qualification to demonstrate that the required properties are met.  Note that it is common customer requirement when a "-G" electrode or filler metal is employed, that the resulting WPS will be limited to the electrode or filler metal of the same manufacturer and brand name/type.

Hope this helps.

want to select the E 7018G (Esab) for welding the material P355NL2 .already we weld this material with 8016C1 (KOBE) but our client need some evidence for example somewhere PQR result to allow to use 7018G. I checked all properties & I can use . If I want to use 8018C1 the corrosion problem in base metals near the weld area will happened & other matter is the less price of 7018G compare with 8018C1. Anty body can give me some help in this case?

Thanks

Heat tint (temper) colours on stainless steel surfaces heated in air // Heat tint

Introduction The colour formed when stainless steel is heated, either in a furnace application or in the heat affected zone of welds, is dependent on several factors that are related to the oxidation resistance of the steel. The heat tint or temper colour formed is caused by the progressive thickening of the surface oxide layer and so, as temperature is increased, the colours change.   Oxidation resistance of stainless steels However, there are several factors that affect the degree of colour change and so there is no a single table of colour and temperature that represents all cases. The colours formed can only be used as an indication of the temperature to which the steel has been heated. Factors affecting the heat tint colours formed Steel composition The chromium content is the most important single factor affecting oxidation resistance. The higher the chromium, the more heat resistant the steel and so the development of the heat tint colou...

Re: [MW:10788] ON PLOT PIPING & OFF PLOT PIPING

Piping systems involved for the flow lines and gathering lines from the well head isolation valve to the production facility or processing plant isolation valve are determined as OFF PLOT. ON PLOT defines piping system in the processing plant and production platform. ANSI/ASME B31.4 applies for off plot piping system. B31.4 allows the use of either API 1104 or ASME section IX (as appropriate). However, occasionally, a very small system such as piping within 500 feet of a processing plant (some client also said 400 feet) may be declared B31.3 rather than B31.4. When B31.3 is invoked, only ASME Section IX is used. before you decide which code to use for welding procedure and/or welder qualification for pipe welding, you have to know the design and construction code applicable to the system. Please read far enough into scope and diagram illustrating the application of either B31.3 and B31.4 hope this helps rgds 2011/4/21 pradip kumar sil < pradipsil@gmail.com > Dear all, ...
