[MW:34471] Re: Impact Test Temperature variation needs requalification

I think, the welding process is SMAW. No thickness is available.
ASME Sec IX, P1 to P1, has listed  as Supplementary Essential variables, in ASME BPVC IX (2010): Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Part IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications

ASME Sec IX, Reference is made to QW-403.6 and Table QW-252, It is supplementary essential(impact test required). So, the material need impact testing.

ASME Sec VIII, D1, If the material temperature is changed from -30°C to -60°C : Reference is made to Exemption curves, UCS-66, For all thicknesses, -60°C is far below all the curves and need impact testing.

Requalification necessary or else : the material need impact testing. But, we can go for direct impact testing, as allowed in ASME Sec IX, para , QW-251.2

Supplementary essential variables are required for metals for which other Sections(ASME Sec VIII, D1) specify notch-toughness tests and are in addition to the essential variables for each welding process.

So, the material need impact testing, if we change the metal temperature from.-30°C to -60°C

Dear All,

I have a WPS for P1 to P1 material, with impact test done at -30 C, another project with different material but lies within P1 and  requirement is for -60 C. Can i show the same WPS/PQR or should i do requalification.
