[MW:30035] Ferrite Number for 309 GTAW using Ferritescope

Dear Sirs,

One of our client asked us to test FN using Ferritescope for the weld samples of 10T and 6T Singe V Butt Joint, made using A240 -.316 and A 516-70 , welded with GTAW ER309.

The values recorded as 4.7, 4.3, 4.7 in 10T and  2.1, 2.2, 1.9 in 6T.

So, why this much difference by using same GTAW AWS Class ER309 rod, but welded in two different "T" samples with bit change in welding parameters.

What is the acceptance criteria for FN of 309 welding?

As per ASME Sec II C, SFA 5.9 for 309 type, it is given as 12 FN, if I am right.
So, can I use this as a reference for acceptance criteria

Please advice.

Regards,
Saravanan,
