Re: [MW:19632] Effect of grinding on ferrite content in urea service

Hi

In your case when you are welding SA240 Type 310 which has nil ferrite, its very important that you use the correct grinding wheel.

If you use Silicon carbide grinding wheels for this material, there are chances of Si pickup which affects the Ferrite Number by increasing the Cr equivalent. Hence grinding with silicon carbide wheels is not permitted in urea service.

A sort of iron contamination. I am not sure in this case. That's why I want some references or your experiences in this matter.

Dear all
I would like to know what is effect on ferrite due to grinding. I have heard and also practically observed it that grinding tends to increase the ferrite content. Also its not permitted on job. But I dont have any references. Kindly share your experience if any.
Base metal- SA 240 type 310
Filler metal - 25.22.2 LMn
Process - GTAW
Thickness - 5mm
Thanks and regards
