Re: [MW:6003] SA 516Gr 60 Difference with SA516 Gr60N

Hi Andrews,

The basic diffrerence between SA516 Gr.60 and SA516 Gr.60N is the plates supplied by the manufacturer with normalize. It Denotes "N".

But As per ASME Section-II Part-A,Plate thickness up to 40mm shall be supplied in "As rolled Condition".More than this thickness shall be supplied with Normalizing. When notch toughness tests are required on plates of 40mm and under thickness, the plates shall be normalized unless otherwise specified by the owner.

In some cases Owner may require the plates with normalize condition even if the thickness is lesser than the 40mm.In this case you have to follow the owner's requirement.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear all,

          Regarding Carbon Steel material SA516 Gr60 and SA516 Gr60N .

 my doubts as follows,

1. what is the difference between them.
2. Generally how we will get from the manufacturer/supplier.
3. Whether we can use instead of SA516 Gr 60  with SA 516 Gr60N.

Note : It is ASME Vessel. "'U'" Stamp job. Consider this as urgent . Reply immediately.
