I am trying bead on plate using Aluminium alloy 2139 plate (4.5 mm thick) with 2319 welding wire (1.2 mm) using GMAW process (DCEP). I am getting black oxidation/burning on the weld bead even after trying all shielding gas flow rates and even trailing gas, but i tried the same parameters with same welding wire on 2024 material i have got good weld bead.
Kindly advise if 2319 wire is not compatible to 2139 material or there is some another reason for oxidation or blackness of 2139 material.
Pls advise. Photos are attached for your reference.
Thanks in advance

2319 is compatable with 2139 but the joint strength will most likely end up under 40% BM. Try switching to a 4xxx filler such as 4043. This should at least get you in the 50% range for machanical properties.
As for the black oxidation I have not come across this issue yet from anyone welding AA2139 but then again this is an area of research where not many are looking. Good luck.
