Dear experts,
I am seeking clarification regarding the application of ASME B31.3 Section 331.2.4, which states:
"If a weldment is allowed to cool prior to heat treatment, the rate of cooling shall be controlled or other means shall be used to prevent detrimental effects in the piping."
1 Is this requirement mandatory in all cases (Even for P1 materials) where PWHT is performed after a delay of several days following welding?
2 If so, what are the accepted methods for controlling the cooling rate prior to heat treatment as per this clause?
Your guidance on best practices and code interpretation for this requirement would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best regards,
Binto George
