BS221-6061 has a higher tensile strength and is generally stronger than 6063. From a weldability point, 6061 can
lead to issues such as cracking if not handled properly during the welding process.
BS221-6063 is easier to weld and has lower strength than 6061; it is often sufficient for applications where extreme
strength is not a primary concern.
If the customer insists on 6061, specify a soft tempered 6061-O or 6061-T4, confirm with the fin manufacturer that
their serrating/rolling equipment and process can handle 6061 without cracking.
