Re: [MW:35354] Cast-iron welding

1. Preheat joint area(other area, cover with mineral wool). 2. ENiCi or ENiFe-CI. 3. stringer bead. 4. peening is to be done on weldmetal immediately after deposition of every electrode. 5. Cover with mineral wool after completion of complete weld for slow cooling.

[MW:35355] Application of Non PWHT WPS to PWHT vessel

Hello all,

I have a case for a U stamp vessel , Vessel designed initially with  no PWHT,  hence non PWHT wps applied throughout the production phase,  later the manufacturer converted vessel requirement to PWHT ! Manufacturer justifies since all other patemerts met the requirement othethan  PWHT , they intent to proceed for PWHT ! What's ASME position shall be here ?

Re: [MW:35356] Application of Non PWHT WPS to PWHT vessel

When all other essential variables are same , except PWHT , you have to revise WPS  with PWHT and do further needful in consultation with AI

Re: [MW:35363] Application of Non PWHT WPS to PWHT vessel

Hi,

Use E2594-15 and E2594-16 under SFA 5.4

The E2594-15 and E2594-16 electrodes are classified under the SFA 5.4 specification for stainless steel covered electrodes used in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). These electrodes are specifically designed for welding super duplex stainless steels, including UNS S32906, S32750, and S32760.

The deposited weld metal from both electrodes must meet the following composition as per AWS A5.4/SFA 5.4

Selection Guide:

Use E2594-15 for critical and high-strength applications requiring low hydrogen welds.

Use E2594-16 for general applications and easier weldability in all positions.

Regards,

Deerendra

Re: [MW:35369] Pipe 304L(P8) – Pipe 304L(P8)

Yes . E/ER 308L is having beter corrosion resistance  but strength reduces marginally. You can also try E/ER 308LM

The details are as follows:

Details

Parent material Pipe 304L(P8) – Pipe 304L(P8)
Inservice temperature range – 35-85 °C
Operating Pressure – 0.4 -0.5 MPaG
Process Type – Process Condensate.
Carbonic acid – there may be the presence of carbonic acid as indicated by CGCL.

Approved Process

WPS# P8-P8 AR - Filler material ER308L- F6 filler metal

Quality Issue

ER308H rods were used instead of ER308L on two locations of the 304L piping.

Technical Advice Request

The client indicated that the use of the ER308H Filler Wire instead of the ER308L has a higher risk of intergranular corrosion and corrosion related issues.

Please advise on the short term or long-term quality effects on the integrity of the welded joints where the ER308H filler wire were utilized.

Thanking you in advance.

Is typ 308H is used at process fluid side ?
If yes , then remove it completely and reweld .
If it is in between or at outer side thickness welding , then no issue

Re: [MW:35371] Pipe 304L(P8) – Pipe 304L(P8)

308 L is for better corrosion resistance application,  But 308 H is for high temperature with minimum carbon control is maintained say 0.04, inferior to corrosion resistance. Ur Temp is not high.
