Re: [MW:26673] HEAT AFFECTED ZONE CALCULATION

Dear sir,

HAZ calculation may done as explained by experts.
But my query will be normally to avoid the crossing of two weld of HAZ, what will be the consideration of HAZ width.

Question: How to calculate heat affected zone in weld?

Answer: Heat affected zone is measured regarding the microstructure changes in the weld. For example in steels, this is the area around the weld zone, which has undergone a transformation. In other words, this is the area, which had been austenitized. For calculating the HAZ after welding, for steels, it is better to macroetech the section of the weld HAZ can be easily recognized by the contrast it makes with the base metal and the weld metal.

Please check AWS Handbook Chapter Heat Flow in Welding

There is a Formula for it and by specifying the Peak Temperature as Ac1 temperature, you can determine the width of HAZ

Dear sir,

I didn't know about code reference, but can say that HAz for thin plate is the about fraction of inch. But for thick plate, HAZ will be maximum 10mm.
As said earlier, HAZ depends on several factor like plate thk, process, heat input etc.
Consider haz max. 25mm
Experts, Correct it , if I am wrong.
