EN 9606-1 qualifies on the filler material (the FM group).

In most cases one FM group, for example FM1 will qualify to other FM groups – for FM1 also for FM2. See table 3 in 9606-1.

 

In theory FM1 filler material may be used for all parent material groups (1 – 11 as per ISO 15608).

But you will never use a welder qualified to FM1 filler material (for carbon steel) to weld parent material group 8 (austenitic stainless steel).

 

The qualification test will be based on a qualified WPS – or a pWPS (that is also allowed).

The welder, when using the issued certificate, shall weld within the range of qualifications for his certificate. So he cannot weld to a WPS qualified to for example group 8.1.

Dear Akhil,

 

Your statement from P1 to P11 is true for welders ability to weld & capable of having correct root penetration as well as fusion.

 

but you need supporting qualified PQR established with correct consumables & Amp. Voltage Heat input.
