Re: [MW:36107] Re: BS EN 9606-1 - WQT (Parent Material Group)

Dear Akhil,

Your statement from P1 to P11 is true for welders ability to weld & capable of having correct root penetration as well as fusion.

but you need supporting qualified PQR established with correct consumables & Amp. Voltage Heat input.

Hope my answer satisfies your query.

Good Afternoon,

According to EN 9606-1,  Parent material groups are "Non-Essential", But need to record in the Welder Certificate as per Code Requirement.

There is a statement " Welding with a filler material in one group qualifies the welder for welding with all other filler materials within the same group, as well as other groups, listed in Table 3, and welding on parent materials from groups 1 to 11".(@ Page 10).

1.My question is Group 1 Cover all Group 1 to 11?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Heat tint (temper) colours on stainless steel surfaces heated in air // Heat tint

Introduction The colour formed when stainless steel is heated, either in a furnace application or in the heat affected zone of welds, is dependent on several factors that are related to the oxidation resistance of the steel. The heat tint or temper colour formed is caused by the progressive thickening of the surface oxide layer and so, as temperature is increased, the colours change.   Oxidation resistance of stainless steels However, there are several factors that affect the degree of colour change and so there is no a single table of colour and temperature that represents all cases. The colours formed can only be used as an indication of the temperature to which the steel has been heated. Factors affecting the heat tint colours formed Steel composition The chromium content is the most important single factor affecting oxidation resistance. The higher the chromium, the more heat resistant the steel and so the development of the heat tint colou...
