Re: [MW:34619] WPQ RENEWAL - ASME SEC IX

Normally Welder Qualification continuity will be performed in the Sixth month with a document such as a production Report signed by a Supervisor. Responsible person and his Qualifications for that welding process are extended by Six months.

If the welder continuity is not maintained within six months of the welding process, then the welder's Qualification is considered Expired. For renewal weld a single coupon plate/pipe and perform VT & RT so that all their Qualifications for the welding process is renewed.

Dear Experts,

Our query is do we need tracer for other welder ( The same joint second time repair WELDER #02 ) based on ASME B 31.3 PARA 341.3.4 CLAUSE (F)?

Regarding repairs the code state:

341.3.3 Defective Components and Workmanship.
An examined item with one or more defects (imperfections of a type or magnitude exceeding the acceptance criteria of this Code) shall be repaired or replaced; and the new work shall be reexamined by the same methods, to the same extent, and by the same acceptance criteria as required for the original work.

341.3.4 Progressive Sampling for Examination.
When required spot or random examination reveals a defect, then (a) two additional samples of the same kind (if welded or bonded joints, by the same welder, bonder or operator) shall be given the same type of examination
(b) if the items examined as required by (a) above are acceptable, the defective item shall be repaired or replaced and reexamined as specified in para. 341.3.3, and all items represented by these two additional samples shall be accepted, but (c) if any of the items examined as required by (a) above reveals a defect, two further samples of the same kind shall be examined for each defective item found by that sampling (d) if all the items examined as required by (c) above are acceptable, the defective item(s) shall be repaired or replaced and reexamined as specified in para. 341.3.3, and all items represented by the additional sampling shall be accepted, but (e) if any of the items examined as required by (c) above reveals a defect, all items represented by the progressive sampling shall be either
(1) repaired or replaced and reexamined as required, or
(2) fully examined and repaired or replaced as necessary, and reexamined as necessary to meet the requirements of this Code
(f ) If any of the defective items are repaired or replaced, reexamined, and a defect is again detected in the repaired or replaced item, continued progressive sampling in accordance with (a), (c), and (e) is not required based on the defects found in the repair. The defective item(s) shall be repaired or replaced and reexamined until acceptance as specified in para. 341.3.3. Spot or random examination (whichever is applicable) is then performed on the remaining unexamined joints.

Dear Sir,
As per ASTM B474, Chemical analysis of weld shall match the chemistry of ERNiCrMo-3, in case of dilution effect manufacture and purchaser agreement is required,
Here, weld chemistry is matching the alloy 825, Is it acceptable?

Chemical analysis of the weld joints in not a mandatory test  in any Code  either in similar or dissimilar welds.
Some Customer specifications are imposing it .
You have to give ref of the dilution phenomenon and communicate the details to QAC

There is dilution. So weld metal chemistry will be not exactly as per filler wire due to dilution effect .

Additional one - Chemical analysis is mandatory in case of corrosion overlays - Undiluted Chemistry at the depth
Thanks

Hello,

Our project requirement is for Astm A131 material during mechanical test the lower yield strength is not achieved according to said spec, but the upper yield strength is according to spec and achieved the required value.

Now the contractor is proposing that though the Reh is achieved the test to be considered as pass.

Hi
There are 2 different work operations mixed together.

1) SS electorate not possible for cs materials because the chemical composition was changed.required new PQR/WPS for cs.
2) as per ASME Sec IX SS Welder can be eligible for CS only limitation for piping for (back Purging).

Re: [MW:34600] Dissimilar welding chemical/PMI acceptance criteria

Chemical analysis of the weld joints in not a mandatory test  in any Code  either in similar or dissimilar welds.
Some Customer specifications are imposing it .
You have to give ref of the dilution phenomenon and communicate the details to QAC

There is dilution. So weld metal chemistry will be not exactly as per filler wire due to dilution effect .

Additional one - Chemical analysis is mandatory in case of corrosion overlays - Undiluted Chemistry at the depth

Re: [MW:34600] Plug Welding

Groove weld WPS cannot be used in tube to tube sheet welding in heat exchanger Tube replacement . Separate WPS need to be prepared as per ASME SEC 9 and also the welder need to be qualified using that WPS

Re: [MW:34592] Oxidation during welding of SA213 gr T22

Please continue with the back purge. GTAW and GMAW require it.
Also, welding of T22 demand the major care,  cleaning and free oxidation.

Subject: [MW:34562] Oxidation during welding of SA213 gr T22

Dear experts,

We are facing problems with welding of SA 213 Gr T22 superheater tubes of thickness 2.9mm.

Generally, back purging with inert gas in GTAW is not necessary for P22 as Cr is less than 3%. However, during welding without use of back purging, Oxide formation is happening. The construction of the equipment is such that, purging is very difficult to achieve.

Kindly Guide us to eliminate the oxidation of root.

Thanking you,
Alpesh
