Re: [MW:32588] SA 516 GR 70- AVOIDANCE OF PWHT - 40 mm thickness

Dear Prasad
Thanks for technical support.
Pl share where this was deployed.
Our vessel is ASME SEX VIII DIV 1 vessel
U stamping and TPI is involved.
Any Code back up , Code case  will be further helpful .

Sir,
1. In this case buttering is carried out prior to PWHT
2. PWHT is due to thickness of P1 material
3. No welding involved with P1 material in closing joint
4. PWHT is not mandatory for P8 welds.

That's my analysis and understanding.
We have implemented such practice in past due to some construction constraints.

Prasad G.

Sec VIII,Div1:-
40 mm thickness calls for PWHT irrespective of service,  lethal or Non- Lethal.
Would like to see in  DIV1,which code clause or code case,  allows application of buttering on C.S, PWHT of individual sections, welding of the closing seam by austenitic filler metal with no PWHT.

Thanks.
P.Goswami.
