RE: [MW:31972] Re: SS 405 grains

Hi Emad,

Your query does not provide details about design/working condition.405 is a ferritic stainless steel. These steels have "good oxidation resistance "however lacks the ductility which is  well evident in austenitic stainless steel. 475 Deg embrittlement may be a possibility upon prolonged exposure @ 500 Deg or more. Read the attached extract from API-RP-571 and proceed for any inspection/ damage assessment as required.

Hope this would be of help.

Thanks.

Thank you for your answer. I was wondering what would happen to grains of stainless steel 405 grains as hanger in boiler  when they exposed to high temperature for long time?

These are straight Cr Stainless steels for high temperature application.

In boiler , you can use this material.

Pl. send what attachment part you are looking for ?

Dear all,

what will happen to the grains of a ferritic stainless-steel type AISI 405 used as an attachment of a hanger bar in a boiler, when it is exposed to flame temperatures of the boiler for 4 years of continuous operation? It is understood that the 405 steel will not oxidize in the high-temperature service environment.

Emad
