Re: [MW:20927] PWHT for stainless steel weld joint

Dear all, Inter pass and heat input should be controlled at any material welding but my question is how reduce welding stress in the stainless steel weld joints. RE: [MW:20924] Use of ER 320 LR instead of ERNiCrMo-18 for Alloy 20 (UNS 08020)

Hello Jignesh,   This is the correct table follow (Ref RP-582-2009).ER 320LR is the default welding consumable for welding alloy-20.   Alloy-20 is no different than any other Higher grade or super austenitic stainless steels, hence weldability issues could be similar.   Thanks.   Pradip Goswami, P.Eng,IWE Welding & Metallurgical Specialist Ontario, Canada pgoswami@quickclic.net pradip.goswami@gmail.com pradip_goswami@yahoo.ca   El Miércoles, 28 de mayo, 2014 7:27 A.M., Jignesh Desai <jignesh.desai.met@gmail.com> escribió: Can some one share his/her experience for the welding of SB463 UNS 08020? i.e. for welding of butt welds what shall be consumables? [MW:20925] Re: Welding of SS 304H to P-91

Thank you Pradip Sir Thank you so much for your valuable advice. would definately bring in notic to the EIL Standard Development group. Kindly clarify one more doubt, as we know that P-91 is poor to weld corrosion, what could be the possible corrosion and failure mechanism if we use ER 309 and how usage of ER NiCr3 helps Warm Regards Arunabh  On Tuesday, May 27, 2014 4:42:10 PM UTC+5:30, ARUNABH BERA wrote: Dear All Kindly clarify the doubts: Sir in Ethylene Cracker Furnace at one of the Petrochemical Plant, we have a hook-up between P-91 and SS304H. RE: [MW:20923] Welding of SS 304H to P-91

Hi Arunabh,   EIL definitely has access to API documents. API TR 938-B(2008) -is on Use of9Cr-1Mo-V steel for refining and petrochemical applications.   Below are the recommended practices on performing dissimilar welds between grade-91 and austenitic stainless steel.   The ideal consumable would be Inconel-82/182 (E-NiCr-Fe3) or Inco weld-A type. The latest development  for such dissimilar welds is EPRI-Program 87, welding consumable manufactured by Metrode.   E/ER-309 type welding consumable is certainly outdated. You may bring this to the notice of EIL Standard developments group.   Hope this info would be of help.   Thanks   Pradip Goswami, P.Eng,IWE Welding & Metallurgical Specialist Ontario, Canada pgoswami@quickclic.net pradip.goswami@gmail.com pradip_goswami@yahoo.ca   6.4.8.2 Joining to Stainless Steel Transition pieces or multiple buttering/PWHT operations ma...
