1. Although all three materials are treated as P-No. 1, Gr No. 2 for ASME Section IX qualification, ASME B31.3 fabrication 

    requirements and the sour-service specification are more restrictive. Your project requires welding of 

         API 5L X65 Pipe with 535 MPa to A350 LF2 Flange with 485 MPa.

 

         API 5L X65 Pipe with 535 MPa to A860 WPHY 65 Elbow with 620 MPa.

         WPHY 65 Elbow with 620 MPa to A350 LF2 Fl with 485 MPa.

         Hence, we can consider them under two PQRs.        

 

          PQR-1: API 5L X65 to A350 LF2

          PQR-2: API 5L X65 to A860 WPHY 65
          Because X65 and WPHY 65 are high-strength materials, while LF2 is substantially lower in strength.

          This covers the X65/LF2 combination.          

 

2.  Recommended WPS & PQR

         Process

GTAW root + SMAW fill/cap

         Root filler

ER80S-D2

         Fill/cap

E8018-G H4R (D&H Secheron)

         Electrode hydrogen

H4R

         Electrode storage

Manufacturer's controlled procedure

         Preheat

Established by PQR; typically, ≥100°C is a reasonable starting point

         Inter pass

≤200°C initially

         PWHT

Approximately 595–650°C, with holding time as per B31.3 Table 331.1.1 and the thickness.

         Hardness

≤248 HV10 if ADNOC specification applies

         Weld Ni

≤1% preferred

         Impact

Based on B31.3 Table 323.2.2 + ADNOC/project specifications.

         Sour service

NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 + ADNOC supplement

         NDT

As specified by B31.3/ADNOC, typically, enhanced tests as per sour-service pressure joints

      

     3.  PQR Tests:

          Weld-metal hardness

          HAZ hardness

          Base-metal hardness where specified

          Low hydrogen consumables

          Consumable chemistry control

          Ni control

          SSC resistance requirements were specified by ADNOC

          Appropriate NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 compliance

          Any ADNOC-specific sour-service testing.

 

    NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 requires welding procedure qualification for sour service to address weld hardness in carbon steels.
