Re: [MW:19010] Re: GMAW instead of GTAW +SMAW

Dear Alfred Arientatcha Mrakpor ,

Yes, you can use SMAW Process as Fill and Cap with GTAW on root , provided you should have qualified WPS for this combination process to be allowed in production joint .

If you have GTAW & SMAW WPSs separately qualified , then you have to refer QW 200.4 ( b) requirements to fulfil .

Ensure this before you apply different processes in the same weld joint .

Hi man,

SMAW qualified welders just could weld as fill & cap in the weld seams according to qualification parameters as thk, pos. & etc. regardless of any process for root pass.

Hi,

I need your technical advice on the use of SMAW qualified welders to participate on a GTAW procedure. Please note that initially we were using SMAW procedure but we decided to adopt an improved procedure, hence few welders were qualified on the GTAW.
My plan is to allow the welders on SMAW to fill and cap the root done by the GTAW welders.

Please advice me.
