Etching is used after grinding to ensure there is no further contamination. This is mentioned in client specification (for duplex steels).

Why not using grinding...?
Acids you've mentioned are used for pickling & passivation purposes and not removing arc strikes.
They are generally recommended for removal of heat tint area of weldments.
They cannot replace grinding methods for removal of defects like arc strike or spatter.

We have to do etching on duplex stainless steel pipes as part of the removal of arc strike. Can you please share your experience on the etchants used for this. 

I referred AS 2205.5.1, which describes a) Chrome regia solution, b)  Nitric acid/ hydrochloric acid solution or c) Ferric chloride as etchants for austenitic stainless steels. My doubt is whether it will affect the corrosion resistance of duplex steels.
