Dear Lalu,
I am wondering how this Hot tapping is feasible !! have you made any feasibility study for this hot tapping job?
please can you share the following details
1.Run pipe thickness,2. process fluid details, other specific client testing requirements
If feasibility studies are made and that can be done,
Use GTAW process to deposit only root & cold pass , and use SMAW process for other passes.
Since GTAW is high heat intensity process it can lead to burn through & puncturing the RUN pipe if wall thickness is minimal.
Awaiting for your responds,
Few reputed client in middle east ,won't allow 2" hot tapping works ,lets us explore how it can done in a effective manner
on stainless steel !!

Dear Experts,--We have a Hot-tapping Job of 2" set-on branch on 42" & 24" Run pipe. Code of construction is B31.3 AND material is SS 321. But our welders are ONLY qualified in GTAW+SMAW. So We need to prepare new WPS and conduct PQR, but my doubt is it mandatory to qualify the welders in SMAW on 2" pipe for this job. Please advise. Thanks & RegardsLALU R.P
