Re: [MW:18854] Aluminium welding process in ship building

Dear Suresh:

5000 series are used for ship building.
These are Al-Mg alloys, they gain their high strength by work hardening and are non heat treatable.
Normally GMAW (GMAW-Pulse) is being used in ship building, Push-Pull torches are very popular.
You can find a lot of useful staff on internet.
Much better than what you can get here.

Dear suresh, GMAW & GTAW are the best welding processes for aluminum alloys. My experience say that GTAW is good for the repair of welded joints, specially in aluminium alloys. 5083 and 5456 are wide used in seawater applications.
