Re: [MW:16665] Required PQR Test Help

Thanks everyone for your answers, so welded 300mm width and 400mm long (parallel side of weld) plate is enough for all these test? I am going to make 3 plate for normal, half repair and full repair PQR. Do I need to send both PWHTed and non PWHT PQR to lab or just 1 post weld heat treated PQR is enough for each of these tests?

The other thing is our client referred ASME IX, QW 403.6. and told me with 10mm PQR I can only qualify 10to15mm thickness, I couldnt find max tickness standard at ASME is it 2 times of PQR if its above 6mm?

Or it depends on work? If they claim in scope of work that this project needs impact test then I use 10-20mm? and if not needed I ll use 5-20mm? Could you pls show me that standard?

Thanks again and Regards

Dear Experts,

Our company is going to make a new PQR and WPS but since I am new at ASME sec IX and B31.3, I would like to verify my tests before doing them.

So PQR specs are;
As per ASME Sec IX

Thickness  -- 10mm (WPS qual. 10-15mm) Will qualify 10mm to 20mm for Impact required job WPS and 5mm to 20mm for non impact job WPS

Mat---  Plate - SA516 Gr60 & SA516 Gr70 (this will qualify bot P1G1 and P1G2 mats right?) For Non Impact Job WPS you can use this WPS for Joining P1 Gr1 to P1 Gr1 ,P1 Gr 2 to P1 Gr 2 and any combination of above

But for Impact Required Job WPS, you require to weld PQR coupon P1 Gr 1 to P1 Gr2 which will qualify for welding P1 Gr1 to P1Gr1,P1 Gr2 to P1 Gr2 and P1 Gr1 to P1 Gr2

Preheat ---   38°C Min(client spec) OK  but how you are going to check temp so precise

Interpass Temp --- 250°C Max For non Impact Job WPS it is not essental But for Impact required Job WPS You can not exceed this Interpass temp

PWHT-- 620°C (120min, 100°C/hr) OK For Non Impact Job WPS you have to satisfy clause QW407.1 But for Impact required job you have to satisfy both clause QW407.1 1nd QW407.2

Pos    --   3G---OK it satisfy for both WPS of Impact andNonImpact WPS

Type   ---  GTAW + SMAW--OK but you require to measure the weld deposit thk of each process and address in PQR

Tests:

2              Tensile Test---

2              Face Bend Test

2              Root Bend Test

4              Side Bend Test (Do we need this?) yesIf you do not go for above bend test

5?           Toughness Test (Charpy V-Noch at -46 C is enough?) --For Impact requirement , You require to test for Weld and,HAZ covering both Process,,For HAZ you require to test(Impact) for Both side HAZ of i.e.SA516Gr70 side and SA516Gr60 side.this condition  is to satisfy the condition mentioned above ,TThis test temp of --46C will qualify  to any temp up to minus 46C

Hardness--For WELD of each process,HAZ of each side preferably in HV10 (This is not code requirement but will help in future)

Radiography---Not mandatory from code point of view but will help to select the good portion for test

And the other thing is how big test coupon should I weld to get these tests. At least 400mm length of weld length
My suggestion is you qualify 2PQR one is with PWHT and second one is with PWHT by welding 2 coupons of 400mm lengthe ach
