Try heating the surface using flame heat, then wire brush gently. Galvanizers use this some time.

My experience is that removing Galv. by flange facing maching ( Remove 1mm thick. of Race)

We got some galvanizing deposits on the serrated faces of flanges. Please share some of your experiences in how to remove these deposits without damaging the serrated face. The material is carbon steel.
