Re: [MW:16008] welds proximity

Dear Pinaki,

You can find in ASME VIII Div. I, UW-9 (d).

(d) Except when the longitudinal joints are radiographed 4 in. (100 mm) each side of each circumferential welded
intersection, vessels made up of two or more courses shall have the centers of the welded longitudinal joints of adjacent
courses staggered or separated by a distance of at least five times the thickness of the thicker plate.

I hope the above is clear.

Dear All,

Can you please confirm if there are any mandatory limitations on weld to weld distance (nozzle to CS/ LS, CS to CS, LS to LS, welds of attachments to other welds etc.)

Details:

Governing code: ASME Sec VIII Dev 1&2 and ASME  B31.3 & 31.1
PWHT – Application on requirement basis.
NDT: 100% &10%  RT & MPI on attachment/ fillet welds.

Does a weld meeting all above criteria (2 to 4) have an issue, metallurgically, when welds are too close or don't have even spacing e.g. weld long seam to long seam, (piping) reinforcement pad to  support  etc.

Thanks & regards

Pinaki Boxi.
