IMO, mainly backing rings shall be of weldable quality and sulfur content < 0.05% maximum.

Dear Experts,
 
Our contractor is going to use the backing strip(permanent) for pipe welding.
As per ASME B 31.3 the material will be acceptable if Sulpher content remains less than 0.05%.
Can anybody give a light on backing strip/ring material acceptance for piping. Please provide me the references.
