[MW:15951] Re: Painting of spool before hydrotest

This would come under the Appendix VI Pressure change test I think. Painting would not drastically reduce the sensitivity and any local leak would probably result in a rupture / flaking of the paint film.

Dear Everyboby,
As per ASME B-31.3 para 345.3.1 says  "All joints may be primed &
painted prior to leak testing unless a sensitive leak test (para.
345.8) is required.
But as per ASME SEC V Shows leak test  comes under :
The specific test method(s) or technique(s) and Glossary of terms of
the method in this article are describe in mandatory appendices I
through X & non mandatory appendix A as follows:
Appendix I—Bubble Test—Direct Pressure Technique
Appendix II—Bubble Test—Vacuum Box Technique
Appendix III — Halogen Diode Detector Probe Test
Appendix IV — Helium Mass Spectrometer Test —
Detector Probe Technique
Appendix V — Helium Mass Spectrometer Test —
Tracer Probe Technique
Appendix VI — Pressure Change Test
Appendix VII — Glossary of Terms
Appendix VIII — Thermal Conductivity Detector
Probe Test
Appendix IX — Helium Mass Spectrometer Test —
Hood Technique
Appendix X — Ultrasonic Leak Detector Test
My question is HYDROTEST & PHENEUMATIC test   is comes under leak test
as per ASME B-31.3 para 435.3.1.  Can we  paint the spool joint before
hydrotest.
Any referances for hydrotest/phenumatic test comes under leak test.

Pradip
